Mapplr’s favorite restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) 5 August 08

I love Vietnamese food so it seems natural for me to include a list of good restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Of course since Vietnam used to be a French colony, you won’t be surprised to find good French restaurants as well. Above is a photo of three Vietnamese women wearing the traditional ao dai, which I adore. I bought an ao dai in a Vietnamese boutique in Paris. It is elegant, sexy and comfortable — an unbeatable combination in clothing.

An Nong used to be a fav of mine, but has slipped a lot in the past 2 years, such as shame as it was used to be so so good

Thanks for the comment about An Ngon. I would like other readers to post updates about restaurants — whether they should no longer be on our list.

You must have been in Saigon a while ago, as Oceania has been closed for quite a while. It is the sister restaurant to San Ho on 58 Ly Thuong Kiet in Hanoi, a highly recommendable vietnamese seafood restaurant
Le Bordeaux is a very good haute cuisine French, with a limited cellar of young Bordeaux and an elegant look
Caffe Centro has by far the best Italian food in town, and it is a simple place. It is in Lam Son Square, the Thai Van Lung branch (closeby) is not as good and is not a restaurant. In Thai Van Lung there is a pizza place, Scoozi, with the best pizza, probably together with the thinner one of Pendolasco on Nguyen Hue.
Pho 24 has a better franchise on Hai Ba Trung around the numbers 65-75, just after Lam Son Square. Their soup is especially good.
