I am Esme Vos, founder and editor of Mapplr, the online service for finding the best restaurants, hotels, cafes, boutiques and other special places around the world. I started Mapplr because of my frustration with the unreliability of online review sites: who are these people posting reviews? Most of the time they do not share my tastes and often, they are friends or competitors of the businesses they are reviewing. In addition, I have no time to trawl through 200 reviews of a hotel.

That’s why I created Mapplr. I want to make a selection of the best boutique hotels and B&Bs (avoiding any chain hotels), restaurants that are neighborhood gems, and cafes where cool people hang out (with good coffee and preferably Wi-Fi).

I have friends whose tastes I trust in many cities around the world and I get their favorites. Many of the places I have visited myself because I travel a lot. I sometimes get tips from readers but I always check them out through my network. Together, my friends and I hope to save you time and trouble. I hope Mapplr becomes your indispensable resource for your travel plans. I also hope that it becomes a place you visit if you want to keep track of what’s hot in your home city.
