If you are looking for a cool place to stay in New York City’s SoHo neighbourhood, consider the Mondrian SoHo which is celebrating its second anniversary this year. The advantage of staying in Soho is you are steps away from the city’s coolest boutiques, restaurants and cafes.
The 26-storey hotel’s rooms have amazing views and boast floor-to-ceiling windows. Designed by Benjamin Noriega Ortiz, who claims he was inspired by Jean Cocteau’s “La Belle et la Bête,” the hotel captures the essence of New York.
The 270 rooms range in size from 170 square feet in the standard room to 490 square feet in the Penthouse Suite. There are six different kinds of rooms that offer special amenities for every guest. The hotel refers to the rooms as Sleeping Chambers and upon entering them, guests tread upon a thick carpet featuring a rose design, and walk by large mirrors. iPads, down bedding and a marble spa bathroom are standard in every room. The fresh cream and blue décor offers a retreat from the bustling city outside. Prices start at $389 for doubles.
For those interested in maintaining their workout regime during their stay, the hotel includes a fitness center with state-of-the-art exercise equipment. The center is open 24 hours a day, with access via a room key. Guests who forgot to pack their workout gear, can purchase an Equinox Emergency Workout Pack, which includes a tank and capri leggings for women and a T-shirt and shorts combo for men. All packs come with a water bottle and socks. Personal training sessions are available for an extra fee from the trainers at the fitness club, Equinox, a partner of the hotel.
One feature of the hotel that cannot be overlooked is the restaurant. The Isola Trattoria & Crudo Bar was inspired by the Amalfi Coast, Italian Riviera and Sicily. Located in the hotel’s greenhouse, the restaurant features long flowing curtains, elegant tables, crystal chandeliers and lush green plants that create the feeling being in southern Italy. Former executive chef for Todd English, Chef Victor LaPlaca serves delectable Italian dishes. The menu includes crudo, an interpretation of Italian raw fish with olive oil, salt and citrus, as well as pastas, pizzas, antipasti and secondi.
And last but not least there’s the hotel nightclub – Mister H. With red lighting, tantalizing accents and antique mirrors that adorn the walls, Mister H is the perfect spot for a refreshing nightcap or a party.
This recently opened hotel is not to be missed if you are looking for something different in New York. With its design-forward ambiance, delicious fare and captivating nightclub, the Mondrian SoHo offers guests everything they’ll ever need on their next stay.
