The Quincy is an all inclusive boutique hotel with a distinctive façade: a bold color palette of anodized steel and shimmering modular windows. This is an ideal place to stay for travelers to Singapore who appreciate high style and luxury, and want all the details of their stay taken care of. This hotel differs from all the others in offering an “all inclusive” package. The hotel will send a personal limousine to pick you up from the airport upon your arrival (this comes with free Wi-Fi to occupy your 20 minute ride) and they have a complementary shuttle to Universal Studios if that’s on your list of things to do. Three meals are provided (included in your package): a daily buffet breakfast, set lunch and dinner all at their restaurant. Furthermore, for those who love happy hour, cocktails are also included in the rates and their minibar is replenished daily.

If you discover that all your partying has ruined a few pieces of clothing, fear not. The hotel will take care of two pieces of laundry daily at no additional charge. High-speed internet is provided throughout the hotel and rooms and there are Apple iMac stations in the lobby.

Following their modern and unique style, they have a glass-enclosed pool on the 12th floor where the pool deck is illuminated with color-changing LED lights. There is a gym with top of the line exercise equipment if you want to burn off all those delicious meals and beverages. After hitting the gym, why not relax in their sauna and steam rooms? The Quincy has thought about everything.

There are 108 funky high tech studio rooms with king sized mattresses, free Internet access, LCD televisions, separate bath tubs and rain showers. Room rates start at $220 (or 160 EUR) per night.

Hotel 1929 is an ideal destination for business travelers who want a more personal boutique hotel experience – without paying sky high prices – in Singapore. The hotel is conveniently located near the business district of Chinatown. It has only 32 rooms and as the name suggests, it was built in 1929 and was used as a trading house before being converted to a hotel in 2002.

Because it charges reasonable prices for rooms, Hotel 1929 was rated the Best Budget Hotel by Times magazine. It is equipped with all the modern amenities business (and leisure) travelers expect (free Internet access, flat screen TVs). The hotel will even rent you a Mac Book, if you forgot your laptop at home. For those who crave a bit more luxury, the Terrace Suites feature private rooftop verandahs with cast iron bathtubs (and Kiehl’s toiletries). After a tiring day, you can relax in the rooftop jacuzzi and enjoy a view of the city from the top floor landscaped terrace (which you can rent for special events).

Hotel 1929 also has a restaurant on the premises called Ember which serves European cuisine with Asian influences. The decor is clean and minimalist, with design furniture pieces. They have an outdoor terrace if you prefer to dine outside.

If you are headed to Singapore, you’ll be glad to know that there are alternatives to the large chain hotels that dominate the city. Not that they’re terrible, on the contrary, I had a lovely time at the Conrad.

But, I prefer my hotels small and intimate. So I am very pleased to see that there’s a new addition to the boutique hotel scene: The Club, a 22-room luxury boutique hotel housed in an early 1900s building that blends colonial chic with contemporary style. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, and they have free Wi-Fi.

There’s also a tapas bar, an outdoor terrace restaurant and a sky bar where you can relax at the end of the day and gaze at the twinkling lights of Singapore.

Singapore gets a bad rap. People say it’s boring and sterile. When I was in Singapore, however, I had a marvelous time. The food is fabulous: Chinese, Indian, Malaysian, Filipino, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese and more. You start with a bowls of spicy laksa (noodle soups with coconut milk) and end with ice kachang. You can eat outdoors at any of the food stalls without wondering whether you’re going to end up in a hospital. The city is clean and safe. I found myself walking around at midnight and saw many women walking outside as well, without any fear. Women can’t do this in most cities in other parts of the world. The shopping is superb. But before you head out to Singapore, check out my favorite hotels and make a reservation.
